William J. Scott, Community Development Director
Donna Mae D'Agata, Administrative Assistant

The Community Development Department provides management oversight for the Health, Building and Planning Divisions and technical expertise and services to the community to plan, manage, and coordinate; the natural, constructed, and economic environment of Salem in order to provide a better quality of life for its citizens. The Director also serves as a special projects coordinator at the discretion of the Town Manager, and facilitates the development of the Capital Improvements Plan.

The Town of Salem is fortunate to have a team of considerate and responsive employees in the Building, Planning, Health Divisions; the attitude in Salem is about helping the customer. In addition, we consider Community Development as an internal consulting organization providing technical and organizational services to fellow departments toward implementing community projects. A key focus in any process is moving ahead with assisting in projects identified in both the 2001 Master Plan and each annual Capital Improvements Program. Articulating projects that are derived from a comprehensive approach is a focal point to our project development.

A key component to the Community Development Department is the coordination of Economic Development activities toward maintaining and expanding the Town's economic vitality. Through the development of capital and transportation projects we strive to guide development toward an outcome that will benefit the community.

The following words identify an approach toward developing solutions: customer centric, comprehensive, long range, adaptable, and integration are the most critical in developing solutions. Each approach by Community Development Department views issues within the context of a broader approach. Please navigate throughout this site and learn more.
