STATE LAWS

Rabies: Chapter 436 section 436:100

436:100 Rabies Vaccination Required- Every dog, cat, and ferret three months of age and older shall be vaccinated against rabies. Young dogs, cats, and ferrets shall be vaccinated within 30 days after they have reached three months of age. Unvaccinated dogs, cats, and ferrets acquired or moved into the state shall be vaccinated within 30 days after purchase or arrival, unless under three months of age, as specified above. Every dog, cat, and ferret shall be revaccinated at such intervals and with such vaccines as the commissioner shall specify from time to time. In rabies infected areas, dogs, cats, and ferrets recently vaccinated shall be kept under control for at least 30 days before being allowed to run free.

TITLE XL AGRICULTURE, HORTICULTURE AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY – DISEASES OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS

NH RSA 466:1 PROCURING LICENSE; TAG

Every owner or keeper of a dog 4 months old or over shall annually, cause it to be registered, numbered, described, and licensed for one year in the office of the clerk of the city or town in which the dog is kept, and shall cause it to wear around its neck a collar to which shall be attached a metal tag with the following information thereon: the name of the city or town, year of issue of license and its registered number. The tag and license shall be furnished by the clerk at the expense of the city or town. Regardless of when the license is obtained, the license shall be effective from May 1 of each year to April 30 of the subsequent year.

NH RSA 466:31 DOGS A MENACE, A NUISANCE OR VICIOUS

  2. Under this section, a dog is considered to be a nuisance: If it barks for sustained periods of more than ½ hour, or during the night hours so as to disturb the peace and quiet of a neighborhood or area.

    Night hours under this section are defined as dusk to dawn.

    A neighborhood or area under this section is defined as complaints from at least three residences in any one neighborhood or area.

235-11. Treatment of Park Property and Animals

D. No person shall bring a cat or dog or other animals into a park unless on a leash no more than six (6) feet in length; and are only allowed into parks or areas of parks that are not otherwise posted.

  1. Enforcement
    1. This ordinance shall be enforced by the Salem Police Department and the Town of Salem's Recreation Department and Town Manager.
    2. Any person alleged to have violated the Rules and regulations as set forth in this ordinance or as posted within such park, may be ordered to appear in the Salem District Courts to answer said charges.
  2. Penalties
    1. The maximum penalty for violating this ordinance shall not exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) (RSA 31:30)
    2. Any person altering or damaging any park property shall be liable for any damages incurred.
